About Me

I was born in Asia, raised in Eastern Europe, and have traveled several places in between.

After graduating with a B.S. in the field of Home Economics-Family & Consumer Sciences, I pursued certification through the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. I was impressed with the broad sub-disciplines of the profession (education was always my favorite!), and when it came time to choose a program of study for my graduate work, I wanted to branch out. I had always been interested in technology, and with a passion for education/human development, I applied at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. I am currently pursuing my M.A. in Education and Human Development with an emphasis in Educational Technology Leadership.

Currently, I work as an Educational Technology Specialist for a small, Christian, liberal arts college in Santa Clarita, CA where I also teach Introduction to Spoken Communication. When I am not at work, I serve as Vice President of Communications for the California Affiliate of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

On a more informal, personal note - if I am not sitting in front of my laptop screen, I enjoy hanging out with my wonderful (and adorable) husband, Mike. Together, we enjoy hiking, biking, intellectual conversations, and long walks on the beach. When cash is readily available, we also enjoy sushi to a sinful degree. We have a pet rat, a betta fish, a dictator-ish goldfish, and a friendly diamond dove.

FAQs

Where did your name come from?
My parents named me after my grandmother. At least, that's what I've been told.

How do you say your name?
Ah, my teachers had a hard time with this one, too. I say "Corinne" like the book of Corinthians in the Bible - just remove the "-thians" part. Don't worry; I'll still answer you if you come close the the pronounciation I'm used to.

How many countries have you been to?
Thirteen. I hope that's not unlucky. :)

What's your favorite country?
It depends. Each country I've been to has its own unique flare.

Fine. What's the strangest thing you've had to eat/drink?
Tea with camel's milk. Hands down. (Kazakhstan)

Are you really a Christian?
Yes, I am, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. There was I time I was willing to do anything to undo my salvation. Long story, but I'm more than willing to share. :) Remember, though, that I am still a human being and will most likely disappoint as I grow and mature both as a human being and a believer in Christ.

Do you have a "favorite Bible verse"?
1 Thessalonians 5:21 - "But test everything. Hold fast to what is good."

Were you really a Home Economics major?
Yes, I was! Although the profession is known as Family and Consumer Sciences now. I use either. When I first entered college, I was a declared music major, hoping to emphasize in piano performance, but everytime I'd tell someone about my plans, I'd feel sick. Not that music is a bad thing (seriously, where would we be without great musicians?), but I began to realize that music and piano performance were not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I had a hard time picking just one major, though. Then, I discovered HE-FCS - a major with 5-6 different disciplines within it: Education; Business; Fashion; Nutrition; Interior Design; Human Development, and at the college I attended - Counseling. Education and Human Development were my personal favorites.

Do you still play the piano?
Sometimes. But my favorite instrument to pull out when I have a chance is my cheap electric guitar.

What about your Master's Degree? Why ETL?
I love people, and I love technology. I wanted to study something that brought the two together in a way that was practical and balanced. Some people hail technology as a cure-all to life's ills while others credit it for the fall of society. I believe that technology is a tool, and we need to find how to best use that tool in different situations. Believe it or not, I don't allow the use of laptops in my class, even if I am heavily vested in technology.
